I wouldn’t call myself an expert in Game Development.
However, I have spent 5 years reading and learning about the development of games. I have probably spent 50k hours practicing 2D & 3D art, shaders, VFX, level design, and more in my own life.
Here’s how I first got interested in this amazing world:
At that time, I was a fan of the Clone Wars TV show. I was inspired to fight against evil, become a hero, make the world a better place, and become a legend with my friends.
Halo 2 and Star Wars Battlefront II (the og) were my first video games that taught me about the indomitable human spirit with its amazing story, legendary music, interesting characters, and the greatest multiplayer experience. After playing the campaigns of both games with the boys, I experienced fear, honor, sacrifice, courage, sadness, happiness, treason, lies, and duty.
It made me realize that I wanted to share with the world stories that could inspire new heroes who could defeat the darkness of our world, fighting the battles we never could. After months of playing Halo, I started reading about game development, programming, art, sound, effects, game mechanics, etc.
But I stopped for years because no one cared; nobody was interested in the stories I was writing or the edits I was creating. To my family, it was always a waste of time because “video games make you a violent person.”
However, I never completely stopped. I kept learning about programming (making minigames in the console with C++), followed by my pixel art. With art, it was very hard to decide between 2D and 3D (I’ll write an article explaining more about this topic later), but in the end, I decided to learn 2D because pixel art was such a beautiful style.
So my goal over the next 6 months is:
To create amazing pixel art games with interesting stories about our rich history, incorporating sci-fi or fantasy elements with beautiful soundtracks and deep messages.
